The Voting Rights Act is hot topic and the Miami-Dade NPHC addresses the issue to help the community-at-large become aware of what it means to them.

Why is the Voting Rights Act of 1965 important? Why is it relevant today? These are some of the questions that were addressed at the Voting Right Act Symposium held by the Miami-Dade NPHC via Zoom with CNN Host Laura Coates.
Laura Coates is a CNN contributor and host who has written a powerful book entitled "Just Pursuit" hosted the Miami-Dade NPHC Voting Rights Act Symposium with distinguished guests Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Florida State Senator Shevrin Jones, Representative Christopher Benjamin, Attorney Trelvis Randolph, and Activist Vanessa Woodard Byers.
The Voting Rights Act Power of Now Why it's important to you symposium brought together a powerhouse panel that discussed the essential question: Why is the Voting Rights Acy important today? This question was addressed along with other important points that our community needed to be aware of as the election cycle begins in our country.
Moderator, Laura Coates of CNN and author took the audience through the history of the Voting Rights Act and navigated questions with distinguished guests who gave insight into the ways in which voter suppression has been woven into the fabric of our society and why the Voting Rights Act is so important and the need for it to be sustained.
Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, along with distinguished guests emphasized the need for people of color to vote and not just in general elections, but all elections in order for our voices to be heard regularly. The panel gave insightful commentary on how not having the Voting Rights Act could affect the trajectory of our rights and why the audience should be aware of the dangers of not letting this important topic get lost in the shuffle of politics.
