Updated: Dec 6, 2022

The Miami-Dade Chapter of the NPHC annually contributes to the Miami Camillus House through monetary and community service. A mass amount of volunteers converge and donate toiletries and other items.

The Miami-Dade NPHC Chapter is always well represented in their annual holiday Camillus House Day of Service.

"Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It is important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop." - Dorothy Height

The Camillus House community service is a staple for the Miami-Dade Chapter of the NPHC. Annually, the Divine 9 chapters converge on the facility to help with the annual Thanksgiving dinner pre-prep day.

Fraternities, Sororities, youth groups, and volunteers come together to help in every way possible to ensure that the more than 350 residents have a wonderful holiday meal.

The meal prep consist of members cutting up celery, onions, carrots, potatoes, and various vegetables. Additionally, peeling potatoes and an assortment of other items that are prepared for the Thanksgiving meal. While those who are handy with cutting duties are working, a great group of organizers prepare bags for the unhoused on the outside of the facility.

Divine 9 organizations donate hundreds of toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, lotions, shampoo, soap, and other forms of toiletries and pack donated bags. These bags are taken to the streets and distributed to very thankful recipients who might not otherwise receive these most needed items.

Many of our volunteers make reference to this community service as one of their favorites because of the satisfaction of knowing that someone in need is being helped and being given a helping hand.
